A few weeks ago, my friend Paige came to visit while on her spring break. We had talked about going to a Broadway show but were slightly wary about how the whole student rush thing worked. We did some research and found three shows we wanted to see. The next morning we got up early and made our way to the address of the theater. We decided we would see The Book of Mormon, Wicked or Matilda. We ended up choosing the book of Mormon.

We briskly walked through Times Square and eventually found the theater. There was already a line outside when we arrived. It was freezing out and unfortunately for me, I did not dress appropriately. Paige and I were determined to get tickets and ended up waiting in line for over two hours.

There were two ticket options. Standing room or lottery. We entered both and ended up getting standing room. Although we had to stand throughout the entire show, it was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. The plus side of getting standing room is that the tickets were only $27!

The show was amazing. The acting, dancing and singing were superb. The show was also incredibly funny. If you have a chance to see it, I would highly recommend it.

On My Radar: Earth Day

This past Wednesday the dance department at Hofstra celebrated Earth day by hosting a yoga class on the quad. It was a beautiful day, probably the warmest day we’ve had this far. I’ve only done yoga a few times before but I am definitely intrigued.

I’ve found that yoga and meditation are great stress relievers.  Yoga is something that I have always been interested in but never really got into. Over the winter I tried an ariel yoga class which was so much fun. I felt so relaxed yet also strong after the class. I hope to take some more yoga classes over the summer.

Recently I’ve been working on trying to relieve stress. I am always stressed out about something. I like to think I handle it well but I’m only human. This year I have tried not to let things get to me. I have also worked on letting go what’s out of my control. I believe incorporating yoga into my daily routine will help this.

Have you ever done yoga?

How do you relieve your stress?

Life As A Dance Major: That You Are Here

This past week I had my first faculty dance concert at Hofstra. I can honestly say it was one of the greatest weeks of my college experience thus far. I am honored to have been apart of a fantastic show with an amazing group of talented dancers and friends.

The piece I was in was titled “That You Are Here” and was choreographed by Ellie Kusner who is an adjunct professor at Hofstra. It was about being yourself and accepting who you are. Each member of the piece wore a different color. I had the pleasure of wearing head to toe red. Unfortunately for me, red is my least favorite color.

It’s a bittersweet feeling. I am relieved that it’s over. After months of rehearsals,  a week and a half of tech and dress rehearsals and five performances, I’m exhausted. On the other hand, I’m sad that it’s over. It was truly an incredible experience that I will never forget.

Don’t you just love my costume?
