The Minimalist Closet of Sara Berman

The Minimalist Closet of Sara Berman

While on the job hunt I’m trying to put down my laptop, take a step back from my applications, and explore all that New York City has to offer. Recently, I went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art to see Sara Berman’s closet. Sara Berman was an immigrant who moved to New York and kept a meticulous closet.

Her closet was minimalistic and monochromatic; she only chose to wear white. Even though I tend to wear all black, I felt inspired by Berman’s choices: everything had a place and there was no excess. The simplicity made me reflect on my own closet.

Since moving to New York and living in a small apartment, it has been a goal of mine to try to adapt a more minimalist lifestyle. I’ve been weeding through my clothes and donating pieces that I don’t wear. Though it’s a slow process, I have been trying to be more mindful of what I actually need when I’m shopping. For items i’m not donating, I’m in the process of making a Poshmark account to start selling my clothes that I no longer wear (stay tuned).

My Closet

It’s still a work in progress as I’m finishing the final touches on my room (a full room post coming soon) but here is what my closet looks like. Keeping my clothes neat and orderly helps me see what I have, what I need and what I can do without.

In the coming months, be on the lookout for more detailed posts about my closet, how I choose to organize, and what to look for while shopping.

I would love to hear your thoughts!

Fall Wish List

Here is what is on my fall wish list:

Sam Edelman Booties

As the season changes and the weather starts to cool, I’ve been on the hunt for a pair of booties that can be dressed up or down. Sam Edelman is one of my favorite shoe brands. Since they’re reasonably priced and super comfortable they’re my go to this fall.

Stila Lip Tint

A couple of weeks ago I tried a trio of samples of Stila lip tints and I immediately fell in love. They offer a variety of colors, are extremely affordable and the color lasts forever! My favorite color is Patina but I want to try this deep red called Ricco.

White Blouse

Whoever said “no white after labor day” clearly hasn’t seen this white blouse from Urban Outfitters. It’s one of those tops that’s incredibly versatile. Dressed up or down, it’s a great closet staple.

Clear Fashion Glasses

I’ve been toying with the idea of wearing clear statement glasses. Even though I’m not sure I can pull them off I might give them a try. What do you think?

Levi’s Denim Jacket

I have been searching for an oversized denim jacket to wear in the colder months. This Levi jacket seems to be the perfect option.

Sonix Phone Case

Funny story, a few weeks ago I dropped my phone in the ocean and my favorite phone case went along with it. I’ve been using a temporary case but am in search for a new one. I really like this one from sonix. Any recommendations?

Madewell Velvet Top

I love this velvet Madewell Tee. It’s a fun piece that is great for work and going out. Lately I’ve been looking for pieces that can be worn out in both professional and social settings.

Madewell Choker

A choker is one of my favorite accessories to add to an outfit. They’re simple, easy and immediately transform an outfit. I have a weakness for black and gold and this Madewell choker is no exception.

Aerie Velvet Bralette

This season, I’m loving velvet. I first spotted this bralette on Aerie’s Instagram and am eager to try it out. Aerie’s bralette’s have always been my favorite and this one seems so soft and comfortable. What do you think of velvet?

What’s on your November wish list?
